Zaida Chinchilla-Rodríguez is a Tenured Researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), affiliated with the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP) in Madrid. She holds a PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Granada (2005) and has developed her professional career in the field of quantitative studies of science.

Her research focuses on the study of the production, dissemination, and use of scientific knowledge, with particular emphasis on collaboration patterns, mobility, and leadership, as well as the dynamics of the global science system. She has proposed methodological approaches for analyzing scientific portfolios at various levels—individual, institutional, and national—that incorporate not only scholarly publications but also institutional and interdisciplinary collaboration networks, societal contributions, and innovation. She also explores how information on these dynamics can support the traceability of academic trajectories and inform the design of research agendas aimed at addressing local and complex global challenges.

She is a founding member of the SCImago Research Group, the origin of the SCImago Lab spin-off, where she has been serving as a scientific advisor since 2008. Her work in this area focuses on knowledge transfer, combining research in quantitative science studies with the development of indicators, methodologies, and open-access infrastructures for the strategic management, assessment, and evaluation of scientific activity. She also contributes to the development of analytical frameworks and science-policy reports.

Her work is characterized by the integration of metric-based analyses with a critical reflection on traditional models of strategic assessment and research evaluation, contributing to the development of more inclusive and responsible frameworks aligned with the principles of open science and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this line, she participates in international initiatives such as the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).
